Artificial intelligence is probably already part of your digital life.
Maybe you use it to study for a test.
To understand something difficult.
To help with a coding project.
To create an image.
To brainstorm an idea.
Or maybe AI is already built into apps and services you use every day without you even thinking about it.
Most conversations about AI focus on what this technology can do for us.
But there is another question every Cyber Hero should understand:
Can AI also be used against us?
The answer is yes.
And recent cyber threat intelligence shows that this is no longer just a theoretical possibility.
AI Is Entering the Cyberattack World
The latest DANRESA Cybersecurity Threat Intelligence Bulletin, covering August 24–30, 2026, analyzed evidence of AI-powered agents being used during real cyber operations.
After attackers gained access to certain computer systems, AI-powered tools were observed helping with activities such as discovering information about the environment and assisting with additional steps of the attack.

That doesn’t mean an AI suddenly decided to become a hacker.
And it doesn’t mean there is a super-intelligent machine somewhere attacking computers by itself.
The reality is much more useful to understand:
People can use AI to automate parts of what they are trying to do.
Just like AI can help someone write code faster, analyze information faster, or organize a complicated task, it can potentially help someone performing malicious activities do certain things faster too.
Think About the Tools You Already Know
Imagine you are building something in a game.
You could place every object manually.
Or you could use automation to repeat certain actions hundreds of times.
The goal hasn’t changed.
But the speed has.
The same idea exists in cybersecurity.
Attackers have used automation for years. Scripts can scan systems, test passwords, search for vulnerable computers, and perform repetitive actions much faster than a person could do manually.
AI can take this concept another step.
Some AI systems can analyze what they find and help determine what should happen next.
That ability is what makes the development important.
What Is an AI Agent?
You’ve probably already used an AI chatbot.
You ask something.
It responds.
An AI agent can go further.
Instead of only providing an answer, an agent can be designed to pursue a goal through multiple steps.
It might analyze information.
Choose an action.
Look at the result.
Then decide what to do next.
Think of the difference between asking:
“How do I organize these files?”
and giving a system permission to:
“Organize these files for me.”
That ability can be extremely useful.
Companies are exploring agents to automate business processes. Developers can use them to assist with software tasks. Cybersecurity teams can use automation to investigate suspicious activity.
But powerful capabilities can also be misused.
Does This Mean AI Can Hack Anything?
No.
This distinction matters.
You may see headlines suggesting that AI is creating completely autonomous hackers capable of breaking into anything.
That is not what the evidence analyzed in this week’s threat intelligence shows.
The important development is that some parts of cyber operations can increasingly be assisted or automated by AI-powered systems.

Humans are still responsible for the malicious activity.
AI is the tool.
Understanding that difference helps you avoid two mistakes:
believing AI is harmless because it is “just technology,” or believing AI is an unstoppable cyber villain.
Neither is accurate.
Why Speed Changes Cybersecurity
Here’s where things become interesting.
Imagine someone finds a security weakness in a computer.
If every step has to be performed manually, there is a limit to how quickly that person can work.
Automation changes that.
A computer can perform repetitive tasks extremely quickly.
And if AI helps automate tasks that previously required more human analysis, certain parts of an attack may become faster and easier to scale.
This week’s DANRESA Cybersecurity Threat Intelligence Bulletin also highlights something surprising: some vulnerabilities being actively exploited in 2026 were originally disclosed years ago, including vulnerabilities dating back to 2015, 2019, 2021, and 2022.

That teaches us another important lesson.
A vulnerability doesn’t disappear just because it is old.
If the vulnerable system still exists and hasn’t been properly updated, the weakness may still exist too.
And automated systems can keep looking for it.
Your Updates Matter More Than You Think
You’ve probably seen this message:
Update available.
And maybe your reaction was:
Remind me later.
We’ve all seen it.
But software updates aren’t only about new features or changing how an app looks.
They can also contain fixes for security vulnerabilities.
That means one of the simplest things you can do to improve your digital safety is also one of the easiest to ignore:
keep your devices and software updated.
You don’t need to understand every vulnerability.
You don’t need to memorize technical names.
You don’t need to become a cybersecurity analyst.
But you should understand why updates matter.
Sometimes that update is closing a digital door someone else already knows how to open.
AI Can Defend You Too
There is another side to this story.
AI isn’t only being explored by attackers.
Cybersecurity professionals also use AI and automation to help defend organizations.
Security systems may analyze enormous amounts of activity looking for unusual behavior.
AI can help analysts investigate alerts.
Automation can help isolate compromised devices.
Technology can help security teams identify important vulnerabilities among thousands of findings.
So the future of cybersecurity isn’t simply:
Humans vs. AI.
It is increasingly:
Humans using technology to attack vs. humans using technology to defend.
And that makes the decisions people make even more important.
Technology Doesn’t Choose Its Purpose
A computer can be used to build a game or create malware.
A programming language can create an educational app or malicious software.
A drone can film an amazing landscape or invade someone’s privacy.
And artificial intelligence can help solve problems or be misused to create them.
Technology gives people capabilities.
People give those capabilities purpose.
That is why learning about AI should include more than learning how to use prompts or generate content.
It should also include understanding responsibility.
Being a Cyber Hero in the Age of AI
Being a Cyber Hero doesn’t mean being afraid of artificial intelligence.
It means learning how technology works well enough to use it responsibly and recognize when something could create risk.
You can start with simple habits:
- Keep your devices and apps updated.
- Use strong, unique passwords and enable multi-factor authentication when available.
- Be careful with unexpected files, links, downloads, and software.
- Don’t give an AI tool sensitive personal information without understanding where that information may go.
- Question extraordinary claims about what AI can or cannot do.
- Ask for help when something online doesn’t feel right.
- Use technology to create, learn, and help — not to harm other people.
None of those actions requires you to be a cybersecurity expert.
They require something much more important:
awareness.
The Next Generation of Cybersecurity May Be Yours
There is one more reason this subject matters to you.
The cybersecurity professionals who will defend tomorrow’s AI systems may be sitting in classrooms today.
Someone will have to design safer AI.
Someone will investigate how these technologies are being misused.
Someone will build defensive automation.
Someone will protect hospitals, schools, companies, games, apps, and critical infrastructure from new kinds of attacks.
And someone will have to make decisions about how powerful technologies should be used responsibly.
Maybe one of those people will be you.
Artificial intelligence is changing what computers can do.
That means cybersecurity must evolve too.
You don’t need to fear that future.
You need to understand it.
Because knowing how technology can be used — for good or for harm — helps you make better choices about how you will use it.
And that’s what makes you a Cyber Hero.
